Club night at the field
Bedford & District Aeromodelling Club is one of the longest established clubs in the Bedford area, with an average annual membership of more than 40 fliers. The primary interest is radio control power models - this is broad based with sports, scale, fun-fly, aerobatic, and gas-turbine jets, all flown regularly. Interest in electric flight and glider guiding is growing, while aerotowing is becoming popular with some members.
The flying site, which is within sight of the famous Cardington hangars, is well kept and is perfectly situated for model flying. It is used by the GBRCAA each year
to hold an aerobatic competition involving some of the country's top pilots.
The club welcomes members of all ages and abilities, and offers tuition to novice flyers by experienced club members. The club is BMFA affiliated and encourages members to follow the BMFA Achievement Scheme to the A and B certificates.
Club meetings are held on the first Monday of alternate months and over the summer period some meetings are also held at the flying site. On the first Sunday of each month there is a fun-competition with prizes, involving things such as climb-and-glide, spot landing, limbo, etc. These are aimed at fostering social gatherings on a regular basis.
